A university library faced challenges withmanual book tracking, inefficient member
management, and outdated cataloging methods. They required amodern Library
Management System (LMS) to automate book circulation, improve inventory
management, and provide digital access to resources. The goal was to enhance
library operations, improve user experience, and streamline administrative tasks.
Client: Confidential (University Library)
Team Size: 10 (Developers, UI/UX Designers, QA Engineers, Library
Consultants)
Tools & Technologies:
Project Management: Azure DevOps, ClickUp, Microsoft Project
Development: ASP.NET Core, C#, Entity Framework, SQL Server
Collaboration:Microsoft Teams, Notion
Testing & Deployment: NUnit, Postman, Docker, Kubernetes, Microsoft Azure
Role & Responsibilities as a Project Manager
Project Planning & Execution
✅ Defined project scope, milestones, and timeline using Agile methodology
✅ Conducted requirement gathering sessions with librarians, faculty, and
stakeholders
✅ Developed a project roadmap and ensured timely delivery using Scrum sprints
Team Leadership & Collaboration
✅ Managed a 10-member cross-functional team (developers, testers, UX designers,
library consultants)
✅ Led daily stand-up meetings to track progress and resolve blockers
✅ Facilitated effective communication between technical teams and library staff
Process Improvement & Risk Mitigation
✅ Identifiedmanual inefficiencies and automated book tracking & borrowing
processes
✅ Ensured data security & compliance with digital rights management (DRM)
policies
✅ Addressed scalability issues, enabling the system to support multiple libraries
across different locations
Key Features Implemented
✅ Online Book Catalog & Search System – Search by title, author, genre, or ISBN
with advanced filtering options
✅ Automated Borrowing & Returns – Digital records for book loans with due-date
reminders and notifications
✅ Membership & Access Control – Secure user authentication using OAuth2 and
Active Directory
✅ Barcode & RFID Integration – Faster check-in/check-out process using RFID
scanning
✅ E-Book & Digital Resources Portal – Online access to e-books, journals, and
research materials
✅ Fine & Fee Management – Automated overdue notifications and online fine
payment integration via Stripe & PayPal
Challenges & Solutions
Challenge 1: Manual Book Tracking Led to Errors
Problem: Library staff manually recorded book check-ins and check-outs, leading
to misplaced books and inaccurate inventory.
✅ Solution: Implemented an automated book tracking system using barcode &
RFID integration for real-time inventory updates.
Challenge 2: Users Struggled to Find Books Quickly
Problem: The library catalog was outdated and required manual searching.
✅ Solution: Developed amodern digital catalog with advanced search filters, AI-
powered recommendations, and categorization.
Challenge 3: Overdue Fines Were Difficult to Track & Collect
Problem:Manual fine collection was inconsistent and time-consuming.
✅ Solution: Integrated an automated fine management system with email/SMS
reminders and online payment gateways for overdue fees.
Project Outcome & Impact
50% reduction in book losses due to automated tracking
70% faster book check-in/check-out process with barcode & RFID integration
40% improvement in user satisfaction due to intuitive search and digital resource
access
Automated fine collection system increased revenue recovery by 30%
Scalability ensured, allowing integration withmultiple branches across the
university network
Conclusion & Next Steps
This project successfully modernized library operations, making them efficient, user-
friendly, and scalable. The system is now ready for integration with AI-based book
recommendations and predictive analytics for library resource planning.
